Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska

This park near Seward is mostly accessible only by boat, air, or hiking. This isolation helps to preserve its raw, untouched atmosphere. It’s home to orcas, humpbacks, sea otters, puffins, sea lions, and over 40 glaciers flowing from one of the largest icefields in the U.S. The cold nutrient-rich waters support a rich marine ecosystem.

Sea otters keep a favorite stone tucked under their armpit (in a loose skin pouch) to:
crack open shellfish like clams and urchins, carry food
and even use it repeatedly over time

Orcas use unique vocalizations (like clicks, whistles, and calls) that differ by pod.
Each family has its own “language” passed down through generations.

But the ice is disappearing. Exit Glacier is shrinking fast — signs along the trail show how far it’s retreated over the past 200 years. The waters are warming. Wildlife is adapting.
But for how long?
